Pastor Kimberly Black
Kimberly has been pastor of Greater Saint Stephen Missionary Baptist Church since 2005. Her late husband, Gary L. Black I, pastor of Greater Saint Stephen’s, passed in 1995. As a single mother, Kimberly says she relied on her "connection to God" to see her through her husband’s passing. She'd always loved "the work of ministry" -- teaching, praying, singing -- but she never imagined herself as a pastor. She served as assistant pastor until 2004 and became pastor in 2005.
She works full-time as a data specialist at Self Enhancement Inc. and devotes her spare time to collecting items that the congregation gives to families in need. Though her small congregation includes people of all ages, she loves to see older people "falling in love with God."
"They've seen all the formalities, the traditions, and the hypocritical stuff that goes on - they grew up in that. But I like to watch them truly step into [connection with God], embrace it, grow with it."
